Week 1: CCS Women’s Volleyball Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (September 5, 2023) – Kyla Bailey (Covenant) was named Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week, while Ally Sokolo (Maryville) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Addie Smith (Maryville) was also tabbed Rookie of the Week.
 
PLAYER – Kyla Bailey, Covenant

The Scots started their season 3-0 with wins over East Texas Baptist, Greensboro, and Greenville. Kyla Bailey was a huge part of Covenant's success. In the win over ETBU, she had 14 points with 13 kills and five digs. She also had two total blocks at the net. In a 3-set win against Greensboro, Bailey had a game-high 11.5 points and was tied for a game-high of seven kills. In defense, she had a strong game with nine digs and one total block. In another 3-set victory over Greenville, Bailey had 12 points and a game-high 12 kills. The senior also had six digs and one assist. For the weekend, Bailey averaged 12.5 points, 10.67 kills, 6.67 digs, and one block per game.
 
DEFENSIVE – Ally Sokolow, Maryville

Ally Sokolow led Maryville's defensive effort over the weekend with a team-leading 81 digs, or 4.3 digs per set. The sophomore libero posted a pair of double doubles in Maryville's home tournament with 10 assists each against Sewanee and Brevard. Her game-high for digs was 23 in the five-set comeback win against Methodist. She also added 17 digs against Sewanee and 16 versus Brevard in two four-set matches. The Scots went 3-2, finishing Sunday with victories against Spalding and Brevard.
 
ROOKIE – Addie Smith, Maryville

Addie Smith began her collegiate career in a big way with four double-doubles and one triple-double over five weekend matches. The Scots went 3-2 aided in part by Smith, who combined to average 2.2 kills, 4.5 assists and 3.2 digs per set over the five matches. Smith just missed a triple-double in her very first match Friday against Sewanee, posting nine kills, 14 assists and 21 digs over four sets. She came back in Friday’s nightcap to record 10 kills, 24 assists and 14 digs as the Scots rallied from back from a 2-0 start to defeat Methodist 3-2. She closed the weekend with three more double doubles, adding 13 service aces and six blocks.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
