Week 1: CCS Men’s Soccer Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (September 3, 2024) – Kade Theunissen (Covenant) was named Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Danny Bahena (Belhaven) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Mason Keith (Piedmont) was also tabbed Rookie of the Week.

 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kade Theunissen, Covenant

Theunissen was a force on the field this past week, contributing to five of Covenant’s six goals. He posted four assists and scored one goal as the Scots secured victories over Hardin-Simmons (4-2) and Brevard (2-1). His performance included three first-half assists against Hardin-Simmons and a crucial penalty kick to tie the game against Brevard, followed by an assist on the game-winning goal in the 89th minute. The senior forward tallied seven shots, with four on target.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Danny Bahena, Belhaven

Bahena was a wall for the Blazers, allowing just one goal while facing 31 shots over the weekend. He recorded 11 saves, including in a standout performance that helped secure a 1-0-1 record, highlighted by a victory over No. 20 Emory.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Mason Keith, Piedmont

Keith made an immediate impact in his first collegiate games, contributing a goal and an assist over the weekend. His performance helped Piedmont collect two wins in their early-season contests over Centenary and MUW.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH (CCS)
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
