FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Maryville's 700 Man is now an All-American.
Reed Kemp earned All-America honors from D3hoops.com on Saturday to complete a season for the ages by the Maryville senior guard. Kemp was named to the Fourth Team and was one of 25 players recognized by the online media agency.
The Franklin native played two seasons at Maryville and earned Collegiate Conference of the South Player of the Year in both seasons. He climbed to No. 2 nationally in scoring this season at 26.2 by scoring 30 or more points in each of his last six games, and he broke a 53-year-old Maryville season scoring record with 707 points (old record 645).

Kemp helped the Scots to a 21-6 record and the CCS regular season championship. He then scored 44 points in the CCS Championship Game for the most points by a Maryville Scot in 47 years. He scored at least 30 points nine times this season, and scored at least 20 points 24 times, including the last 17 games of the season. Kemp became the 37th Maryville men's basketball player to reach 1,000 career points, finishing with 1,200 in his two seasons.
He ranked second nationally in 3-point field goal percentage at 49.5 and ranked ninth in 3-pointers made per game at 3.37. His 91 3-pointers this season were the third-most in program history. Kemp was the conference leader in scoring, 3-point field goal percentage, 3-pointers made per game and free throw percentage (84.6). He set most of his career game highs this season, including 44 points and 16-of-19 at the free throw line (both career game highs) against Huntingdon in the CCS Championship game, 10 rebounds against Gettysburg, and eight 3-pointers and five assists versus Covenant. He finished second in the conference in minutes played at 31.6.
Maryville went 5-2 against this year's NCAA tournament field, and Kemp in those seven games averaged 29.1 points. He scored 32 points in a win over Berry, 28 points in a loss to Gettysburg, 29 points in a win over Pfeiffer, 27 points in a win at Roanoke, and 21, 23 and 44 points to help the Scots go 2-1 in three games against Huntingdon.
