The game was low-scoring and a close one through five innings of play, with the Scots up just 2-0. Asbury's starting pitcher Caden Devine, despite his winless record, has been tossing some efficient innings as of late. He gave up only one earned run on six hits for a solid outing. His team couldn't back him up though. In total, Asbury gave up only two earned runs, as their errors led to the other runs being plated and driving up the score.
Colin Dunworth drove in his conference-leading 28th RBI in the third inning to give the Scots their initial lead, bringing home Brayden Evans. Evans reached based on a throwing error by the second baseman that caused the first baseman to step off the bag, allowing Evans to reach base safely.
Ashton Whiteaker plated his 23rd RBI of the season (ninth in the CCS) on a single to left field that brought home Matt Hall to give the Scots a 2-0 lead after five.
The Sixth inning changed the dynamic of the game, with Maryville bringing in three runs on three hits and an error, building their lead to 5-0.
Evans singled and scored Det Dettwiller from second, reaching second himself and advancing Zach Devries to third, on an E9 where the right fielder heaved the ball to the other side of the field, with no one in the area. Matt Hall drove in the runners the next at-bat on a single to give Maryville the 5-0 lead.
Asbury would get their only run of the game in the seventh inning on a hard-hit ball up the middle that bounced off of Kyle Timko's foot and snuck out to right field, allowing the runner from second to score on the odd play, bringing the tally to 5-1, and would finish that way.
Xavier Resto would pitch two innings of relief for Timko, giving up only one hit and striking out two of his eight batters faced. Timko struck out seven in his seven innings, including his conference-best 18th looking-strikeout. Timko leads the conference in Wins (6) and is second in innings pitched (47.2), and has a top-10 ERA of 3.21.
The Scots improved to 19-8 and 6-1 in the CCS with the win. Asbury falls to 5-17 and 1-9 in the conference.
