LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant men's basketball dominated after celebrating some familiar faces, winning 96-69 at Barnes PE Center on Friday evening.
On a night when the Scots honored the 2015-16 crew that made the NCAA Tournament, Covenant did not disappoint. Four reached double figures for the Scots, led by Logan Patterson's 19.
Covenant (7-12, 2-4 CCS) jumped out early in this one, going on a 16-5 stretch to open the game. Pierce Smith scored four in this stretch, but he had help, as Patterson, Jake Stephens, Ethan Parker, Thomas Malcolm and Derrius Teagle helped him out.
The visiting Owls (5-10, 0-0 C2C) responded with a 6-0 run of their own, cutting the lead down to five. However, the Scots had the answers, getting 11 unanswered points to reclaim a big lead.
Bolton Born and Fisher Mitchell helped extend the lead to 20 with 7:44 remaining in the half, and Covenant cruised from there, leading by 18 at half.
A quick 5-0 stretch in the early stages of the second half gave the Scots their largest lead (24), capped off by a Teagle layup. James White got into the action at the 12:56 mark of the half, hitting a pair of layups to boost the advantage to 26.
Gus Hood added five of his own later in the half to extend the lead to 27, and then Malcolm, Korbin Long and Luke Deininger pushed it out to a 30-point advantage in the late stages. Blake Batts added three in the final minute to close things out.
Asheton Glass led the Owls with 13 points, while Braxton Crocker added 12.
