Hawks Shut Out Piedmont to Advance to CCS Semifinals

HUNTINGDON, Ala. – The Huntingdon College women's soccer team advanced to the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Piedmont in the conference tournament quarterfinals Saturday at the Samford Soccer Complex.

The Hawks took an early lead in the 23rd minute when Lexie Segars found the back of the net at the 22:41 mark. Shaylinn McFarland provided the assist, setting up Segars for the match's only goal.

Huntingdon carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime, putting pressure on the Piedmont defense throughout the opening period. The Hawks recorded seven corner kicks and five shots in the first half as they looked to extend their lead.

Piedmont came out more aggressively after the break, recording nine second-half shots in an effort to find the equalizer. Huntingdon's defense held firm, while goalkeeper Libby Williams made all four of her saves in the second half to preserve the shutout and secure the 1-0 victory.

Huntingdon finished with eight shots and nine corner kicks, while Piedmont recorded 14 shots. Segars led the Hawks with three shots, including two on goal, and Williams finished with four saves.

With the quarterfinal win, Huntingdon advances to the CCS semifinals in Huntsville, Alabama, where the Hawks will face regular-season conference champion Covenant on Friday, November 6, at the Loretta P. Spencer Complex.

The two semifinal winners will advance to the 2026 CCS Women's Soccer Championship match on Saturday, November 7, with the conference title and automatic postseason berth on the line.
