WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University men's soccer team (1-2-1 CCS) earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Franklin College (0-2-2 HCAC) at the Gray Outdoor Venue on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles improved to 1-2-1 on the season behind a second-half game winner from Tyson Absher and a shutout performance from goalkeeper Tolan Beaty.
Asbury controlled much of the match from the opening whistle, outshooting the Grizzlies 14-8 and holding a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Eagles generated several quality opportunities in the first half, including multiple chances from Fabricio Turner and Tyson Absher, but the match remained scoreless through 45 minutes.
The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute when Tyson Absher found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. The unassisted strike at the 61:57 mark proved to be the difference as the Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the second half.
Franklin pushed forward late looking for an equalizer, earning several corner kicks and putting pressure on the Eagles' back line in the closing minutes. Asbury goalkeeper Tolan Beaty stood tall, recording three saves over the final 34 minutes and finishing the night with four total saves to secure the shutout victory.
Absher led the Eagles offensively with a game-high seven shots and the match's lone goal. Turner added three shots on target, while Grant Slater contributed two shots as Asbury maintained the attacking advantage throughout the contest.
