LAGRANGE, Ga. -- Covenant volleyball clinched their 10th straight win on Saturday as they took down both of their opponents in Saturday's twin billing in LaGrange, upending the Panthers 3-0 and reverse-sweeping Rhodes 3-2.

The 10-game win streak is the first since Oct. 19 - Nov. 16, 2024, which included the Scots' CCS Tournament title win.

MATCH ONE: Covenant 3, LaGrange 0

The Scots kept their winning ways alive in CCS play as they swept their third straight conference opponent, LaGrange, in their first match.

Kennedy Barber led the way in kills (10), while Cali Sandhoff assisted on 18 kills and Hailey Landrum had three aces. Defensively, Gabby Sumrall blocked four attacks and Sarah Jennings recorded 10 digs.

Similarly to Covenant's doubleheader yesterday, the Panthers (6-4, 0-1 CCS) gave the Scots a run for their money early on, coming back from an early 7-1 deficit in the first set to tie it at nine and then taking a 17-15 lead later in the set.

A 6-0 run by Covenant (9-1, 3-0 CCS) quelled concerns temporarily, but LaGrange responded to make it 24-23 with the right to serve. However, a service error allowed the Scots to escape with a set one win.

The Panthers wasted no time getting ahead in the second set, going up 12-8 early on. However, a subsequent 6-1 run by the Scots, highlighted by two Avery Maiden kills, put Covenant back up 14-13. After a back-and-forth next several points, when it mattered most, Covenant came through again, scoring five of the final six points to take the set, 25-22.

The Scots then took control, using a 7-2 run midway through the third set to take a 21-12 lead, getting two kills from Sandhoff and an ace from Landrum in that stretch.. They withstood a subsequent run by LaGrange and then took four of the last five points to win, 25-18, and leave with a sweep.

Alex Krabs led the Panthers with 10 kills, while Kaitlyn Smith had six blocks, Julia Damico added 20 assists, and Gabby Bellamy posted 16 digs.

MATCH TWO: Covenant 3, Rhodes 2

The set winning streak was stopped at 24, but the Scots nevertheless responded from a 2-0 set deficit to come back and take down Rhodes, 3-2, in their second match.

Aubrianna Gerdes stepped up to take 16 kills for the team lead, while freshman Evy Hammer had a season-best 29 assists and Henley Gentry dug out a career-best 31 attacks.

After dropping the first two sets, both by 25-23 scores, the winning streak appeared to be in danger for the Scots (10-1, 3-0 CCS).

Covenant silenced the doubt.

Following watching their 11-7 lead in set three get evaporated, Covenant battled, using a late 4-0 stretch, capped off by a kill from Hammer, and then got two kills from Gerdes to take the set, 25-20.

Another tight set followed, but the Scots broke through again, using a 5-0 run to take a 16-11 lead and then forcing a deciding fifth set on back-to-back aces from Gentry. 

Glowing with confidence, Covenant dominated the fifth set, running off 11 straight points to make it 14-5, getting three aces from Cali Sandhoff to put it out of reach, punctuating it with a block from Gabby Sumrall and Hammer to win it, 15-7.

Caroline Short led the Lynx (5-3, 0-0 SAA) with 18 kills, while Emma Clark had 27 assists.

A matchup with major CCS implications awaits on Wednesday when the Scots take on Asbury at Barnes PE Center at 6 p.m.
