Berea Tabbed Preseason Favorites in CCS Women's Basketball

ATLANTA - Berea College has been tabbed by the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) head coaches to claim the inaugural Women's Basketball Conference Championship this winter as the coaches' poll was released by the league office today. The Mountaineers were one of four different CCS women's programs to earn at least one first-place vote from the conference's head coaches in a very close poll, which saw the top three teams separated by just eight total points.

Berea received 58 total points and five of the nine first-place votes from the opposing head coaches in the league. Under the direction of head coach Trent Milby, the Mountaineers finished the 2021-22 campaign with a mark of 22-6, including a 14-1 mark in USA South Conference play. They fell to Southern Virgnia in the Championhip of last season's USA South Tournament.

Piedmont University finished second in the CCS Coaches' Poll, having received 53 points and two first-place votes from the women's basketball coaches. Maryville College earned the third slot with 50 points and the Scots also earned a first-place vote.

LaGrange College was picked to finish fourth by the conference's head coaches (47 points), while Belhaven University earned the fifth slot with 33 points, and earned the remaining first-place vote.

The 2022-23 Collegiate Conference of the South Women's Basketball Championship will begin on Tuesday, February 21st, and will culminate with the Championship Final on Saturday, February 25th
