Piedmont is the Unanimous Choice to Claim the CCS's First-Ever Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship this Spring

ATLANTA - Piedmont University has been picked by the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) head coaches to claim the 2023 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship this spring as the preseason coaches' poll was released by the league office today. The Lions were a unanimous selection as they received all five of the first-place votes they were eligible for from the league's head coaches in the voting.

The 2023 CCS Spring Championship is scheduled to take place April 27-28 in Jackson, Mississippi.

Piedmont received 25 total points in the voting, four more than second-place selection Berea, which earned 21 points in the voting, including the remaining first-place selection. The Lions are coming off a 2022 campaign which saw the team set six new school records. They also had four individuals and one relay team claim first-place finishes at the USA South conference championship meet last spring, highlighted by two individual championships by Chris Donsereaux to help Piedmont finish in second place as a team at the event.

Belhaven was picked to finish third as the Blazers received 14 points in the voting, just one ahead of Covenant (13 points), which was picked to finish fourth. Rounding out the rest of the conference's preseason rankings were Huntingdon (10) and Maryville (7).
