Belhaven Downs Ozarks on Final Day of Rhodes Classic

MEMPHIS - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team bounced back after a tough loss on Friday and took down Ozarks 69-58 on Saturday in the final day of the Rhodes Classic in Memphis.

The Blazers fell behind early on against the Eagles but quickly bounced back with back-to-back threes from Jordan Williams and Jermario Hersey putting Belhaven up 16-10. As the opening half wore on, Belhaven continued to keep the lead over Ozarks, jumping out by as much as eight points late in the period.

On the other side of halftime, Belhaven started hot and opened up their first double-digit lead of the game in the opening second half minutes. At the 12:27 mark of the half, the Blazers had pulled out to their largest lead of the game, 19 points, as Jermario Hersey tipped home a rebound.

Ozarks made a run and trimmed the Blazers' lead back to single digits with under eight minutes to play but Belhaven was able to answer and restore the double-digit lead. Over the final minutes, Belhaven maintained control and secured the 11-point victory.

Jermario Hersey led the way for the Blazers with 23 points including shooting a stellar 5-6 from beyond the arc. Jacob Reese finished the game with a double-double, tallying 11 points and pulling down 20 rebounds.

The Blazers return to action on Tuesday when they host Millaps at Rugg Arena. Tipoff against the Majors is set for 7:30 PM.
