Panthers Basketball grabs 78-66 road win

LaGrange College Basketball secured the first victory of the season with a 78-66 win over Millsaps College on day one of the Huntingdon Classic (Nov. 16).

Game Details
Following a slow start for LaGrange, a three-pointer by sophomore guard Devin Dowell ignited the spark for LC to dig their out of the early 9-2 deficit. This was followed up with field goals by junior guards Micah McAllister and Brodie Scott to tie the game at 9-9. McAllister started the game off hot, hitting 3-4 of his shots for seven points in just the opening 10 minutes. Junior guard Jace Herrell followed suit, knocking down back-to-back threes to give LaGrange a 19-17 lead with nine minutes remaining in the half. Millsaps quickly responded, going up 26-19 after the Panthers' shots struggled to fall. Sophomore guard Kameron McCall countered by hitting a three to cut the MC lead to 26-22 at the five-minute mark. The two teams traded punches the rest of the way, but LC held a tight 31-30 advantage as time expired. At the break, Kameron McCall led the team with 10 points following an impressive end of the half run.

The Panthers started the half capitalizing on a McCall three-pointer to get LaGrange going. In the opening five minutes, LC was up 48-36 with McCall and Samuel Moss leading the charge. The willingness of the Panthers to out-hustle the Majors mixed with stifling LC defense kept LaGrange out in front by 12 with under nine minutes remaining in the game. This complementary basketball was showcased when Devin Dowell hit a three-pointer and then stole the ball back before MC could advance it past the half-court line. With five minutes left, MC had cut the LC lead to 62-59 following an explosive offensive run. The Panthers responded by hitting three of their next four free throws and a Moss jumper to establish a 67-59 lead. The electric guard continued his explosive second half, knocking down back-to-back threes to give LC an 11-point advantage in the final minutes. LaGrange held on to secure the Panthers' first victory with a 78-66 win over the Majors.
