JACKSON, Miss.- Coming off a massive exhibition win against Shorter, Huntingdon men's basketball(5-0 overall) stepped into the Hangar Dome and defeated the Millsaps Majors(2-5 overall) 98-79. Huntingdon saw contributions on the offensive end of the court from nearly everyone who stepped on the court, with 13 Hawks finding their way to the scoring column.
First Half
- Keeping the theme of hot starts, a pair of RayQuan Taylor free throws gave Huntingdon an early 7-2 lead
- Millsaps responded by cutting Huntingdon's lead to 14-10 at the 12:49 mark before baskets from Tate Goolesby, DaQuan Hawkins, and BJ Brown pushed the Hawks' lead to 22-12
- Following several stints in which the Majors brought the score within single digits, most notably 31-27 at the 3:35 mark, Randall Davis sparked an 11-0 Hawks run that saw Huntingdon's double-digit lead return at the 2:06 mark, 38-27, before growing to as much as 42-27
- Millsaps cashed in on a layup to stop the bleeding and bring the halftime score to 42-29
Second Half
- Opening the half on an 8-2 run, largely in part due to three-pointers from DaQuan Hawkins and Martise Jackson, the Hawks held a 50-31 lead by the 18:33 mark in the half
- BJ Brown followed a Millsaps freethrow with a short jumper to give Huntingdon a 20 point lead, 52-32, just a minute later
- The Majors started to claw back into the game with a 5-0 run at the 16 minute mark, but trips to the charity stripe from RayQuan Taylor and a three-pointer from Jeremy Autinpushed Huntingdon's lead to 63-40 by the 14:38 mark
- After trading baskets over the course of the next six minutes, Myles Murphy collected a rebound off a Nate Johns miss from the free throw line and put it back in to bring the score to 77-54 entering the final 8 minutes
- The Majors cashed in on a triple at the 4:06 mark to cut the Huntingdon lead to 89-71 by the 4 minute mark, but five consecutive points from Randall Davis saw the Hawks lead return to 94-73.
- Back-to-back layups from Davis and Donovan Wilson brought the game to a close, giving Huntingdon their second win against Millsaps on the season.
