ATLANTA, Ga. (February 12, 2024)– The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its softball weekly honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Sydnee Mcelveen (Wesleyan) was named
Player of the Week, while
Allie Roberts (Huntingdon) earned
Pitcher of the Week honors.
Haynie Jane Gilstrap (Maryville) was also tabbed
Rookie of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sydnee Mcelveen, Wesleyan

Mcelveen went 3-for-5 this weekend at the plate in her college debut which included a double. The Macon, Ga native dove in four runs against Columbia International.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Allie Roberts, Huntingdon

Freshman Allie Roberts threw a no hitter in the Hawks inaugural game of the season and her first game in the circle for the Hawks. The Auburn, Alabama native pitched 42 strikes on 54 pitches, fueling the Hawks dominant performance.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Haynie Jane Gilstrap, Maryville

Gilstrap helped the Scots to a terrific debut weekend with a doubleheader sweep at Centre. The rookie finished with a combined 5-for-7 in the twin bill with three doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored. She went 2-for-3 in the 10-1 victory and then 3-for-4 with two doubles and three batted in as Maryville rallied for a 10-7 triumph in the nightcap. She also added one walk to reach base in six of her eight plate appearances. The Georgia native handled seven chances at second base with four putouts and three assists.

The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
