JACKSON - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team polished off a season sweep over rival Millsaps on Saturday as they took down the Majors in comfortable fashion, 81-64, at the Hangar Dome.
It was a solid performance from the opening tip for Belhaven who led for the majority of the contest including the final 35 minutes. Belhaven jumped out to an early lead and withstood some back and forth with the Majors before a three-pointer from DeMarcus Powe just five minutes in put Belhaven up 14-11.
From that point, the Blazers wouldn't look back, quickly pulling out to a double-digit advantage and leading by as many as 17 in the first half. At the break, Belhaven was on top 46-36 and would continue to hold control in the second 20 minutes.
Millsaps trimmed the Belhaven lead back down to single digits early in the second half, but the Blazers pulled away once more, extending the lead to 24 points with two and a half minutes left in the game.
On the day, Jordan Marshall the Blazers' with 17 points while Jacob Reese grabbed a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. DeMarcus Powe also finished in the double-digit scoring for the Blazers with 13 points to go with five rebounds and three assists.
With the win, Belhaven improves to 10-3 on the season and has now won five straight with their conference opener on the horizon. Belhaven will host LaGrange on Tuesday in the CCS opener with tipoff against the Panthers set for 4:00 PM.
