Blazers Hold Off Piedmont for Conference Win

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team is set to depart Georgia with a pair of conference victories after they held off a second half comeback bid against Piedmont on Saturday. The win over the Lions follows a victory over Covenant on Thursday night.

The start to the game saw Belhaven jump out to an early lead with a strong early offensive performance. Belhaven led 14-2 out of the game and maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the opening half. The Blazers even saw their first half lead extended out to 20-plus points

The second half though saw the hosts battle back and mount a comeback effort. Piedmont quickly trimmed the Blazers' 16-point half time lead down to single digits in the effort. In the waning minutes of the contest, the Blazers saw the Lions climb to within a point on multiple occasions but strong free throw shooting late, helped Belhaven seal the victory.

Jordan Marshall led the way for the Blazers offensively with 20 points to go along with five assists and three steals. Jacob Reese recorded another double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds while Demarcus Powe and Jermario Hersey added 14 points and 10 points respectively.

The Blazers will look to keep their winning streak going when they return home on Tuesday to host Huntingdon in conference action.
