Blazers Lead Wire to Wire in Win at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team won their 10th straight game of the season on Saturday with a wire-to-wire victory over rival Maryville in a rematch of last season's Collegiate Conference of the South championship.

Belhaven started quickly despite their second contest in less than 24 hours after taking down Asbury in Kentucky on Friday evening. The Blazers jumped out to an early lead with a quick 5-0 run out of the gates and held a slim lead for the early part of the first half.

A late run at the end of the half gave the Blazers an eight point lead heading into the break. Belhaven came out firing again in the second half with a couple of early buckets to grab a double-digit advantage. Maryville chipped away at the Blazers' lead but Belhaven kept the Scots at bay before a strong final five minutes where Belhaven pulled away, leading by as many as 13, to close out the victory.

Jordan Marshall had a strong performance on the day with a season-high 35 points including hitting important free throws down the stretch. Jacob Reese continues to pile up his double-double performances with 15 points and 16 boards with Jonathan Lucas also grabbing a double-double on the day finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

With the win, Belhaven improves to 15-3 on the season and are now 5-0 in conference play. Next up for the Blazers is a trip to Georgia to take on LaGrange on Wednesday. Tip off against the Panthers is set for 7:30 PM.
