Blazers Grab Late Win at Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team won a 13th straight game on Tuesday with a tough road battle at Huntingdon featuring two of the top three teams in the CCS standings.

Belhaven took an early lead against the Hawks but the early minutes set the tone for what would be a back and forth affair. Battling throughout the first half, it was Huntingdon who had the first big run to create separation with an 8-0 streak putting them up 27-20 late in the half.

The Blazers battled back with some scoring runs of their own and it took a basket from Huntingdon in the final seconds to give the home team a 32-31 advantage at the break. The Blazers clawed back early in the second half retaking the lead in the opening five minutes.

Throughout the remainder of the second half, neither team would lead by more than five with the Blazers threatening to open up a notable lead but not able to before Huntingdon cut the deficit. Late defense stands which included a couple of turnovers, as well as free throws from Jonathan Lucas and Jacob Reese helped seal the win for the Blazers who move to 18-3 on the season and 8-0 in conference play.

Jacob Reese finished with 19 points in the win and grabbed a double-double with 13 rebounds. Jermario Hersey also contributed an important 17 points including some early made threes in the second half. Jordan Marshall finished with 15 points on the night while Jonathan Lucas pulled down an important nine rebounds.

Belhaven will look to continue their winning ways when they return home on Saturday to host Covenant. Tip off against the Scots is set for 4:00 PM in Rugg Arena.
