Brooks Earns 50th Victory as Blazers Take Down Piedmont

JACKSON - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team made it 12 straight wins on the season and seven straight in conference play on Saturday with an 82-63 victory in Rugg Arena. The win also marked the 50th at Belhaven for Head Coach Josh Brooks who becomes the fastest Head Coach to 50 wins in program history.

The Blazers, who had not played at home since early January, bounced back after the visiting Lions took an early lead out of the gate. DeMarcus Powe was strong from long range early, hitting his first three shots from beyond the arc in the opening five minutes.

Belhaven then took command, particularly in the final five minutes of the opening period. The Blazers opened their advantage out to double digits aided by a strong offensive performance from Jordan Marshall to close the half.

Belhaven took a 45-32 lead into the break and did well to keep Piedmont at bay early in the second half. The Blazers steadily grew their advantage as the second half continued, leading by double digits for the remainder of day and by as many as 23 in the period.

On the day, Belhaven was led by Jordan Marshall who finished with 21 points and six assists in the victory. DeMarcus Powe, with a strong shooting night, finished with 15 points and four assists on his tally.
