Hawks Volleyball Claims 3-0 Sweep Over Oglethorpe

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Looking to bounce back from their two losses this weekend at their home tournament, Hawks Volleyball returned to action in Roland Arena once more, this time playing host to the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University. In convincing fashion, the Hawks led from end-to-end in tonight's match, claiming a 3-0 sweep over their non-conference opponent.

Things got rolling early for the Hawks, as they claimed a 25-16 victory in the first set. Morgan SuggsAly Harris, and Lily Van Dyke led the charge early, spearheading Huntingdon's efficient attack that featured 13 kills and just 1 error en route to a 1-0 lead. The Stormy Petrels drew near at multiple stages in the set, even tying things 10-10 midway through, but the Hawks kept rolling, utilizing a six point run and a four point run to move in front.

Huntingdon's momentum from the first set carried over into a 25-21 set two victory. A similar tale to the first set, the two teams were even early on, seen by a 5-5 tie and multiple instances of the Stormy Petrels drawing within four points, but Huntingdon still never lost their lead. They committed six more errors and 3 less kills, but the Hawks made the most of their opportunities as they presented themselves, lending itself to the 2-0 advantage. Harris, Suggs, and Olivia Goodrich guided Huntingdon's offensive efforts in the set, each picking up crucial kills to keep the Hawks in control.

To close things out in three sets, the Hawks saw their most productive offensive set in the match finale, picking up 16 kills on the way to a 25-17 victory. While Aly Harris continued to control Huntingdon's front line, freshman A'Kirra McElveen joined the effort as well, sending one over the net to spark a run that pushed the Hawks lead from 10-8 to 14-8. Sophomore Gracie Wallace also came to life in the final set, picking up 3 digs and a crucial ace to put Huntingdon into position to complete the sweep before Harris officially iced things away with a kill assisted by Molly Wilson for the final point.
