Eagles Beat IU East for Sixth Win; Absher Extends CCS Goal-Lead

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky --- Asbury men's soccer (6-2, 0-0 CCS) earned their sixth win of the season on Saturday afternoon in Wilmore, Ky., led by freshman Tyson Absher, scoring his College Conference of the South (CCS) leading seventh and eighth goals to beat IU East (2-5-1, 0-0 RSC), 3-1. 

The Eagles scored two first-half goals, Absher in the 23rd minute, assisted by freshman Jacob Graston, and then freshman Elijah Coates with his third of the year in the 37th, assisted by freshman Elyse Kaze. IU East capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity in the 53rd minute, pulling within one, 2-1. 

AU freshman Benjamin Rogowski set Absher up for his insurance goal in the 74th minute, securing the 3-1 win for the Eagles. Asbury is now 3-4 all-time against IU East, a former NAIA conference opponent. 

The Eagles got off a season-high 20 shots, putting nine of them on goal. The Red Wolves took five total shots with three of those on goal against AU goalkeepers Crosby Short and Peyton French.

Short, the back-to-back reigning CCS Defensive Player of the Week played the first 45 minutes with no shots to defend. French played the final 45' with two saves and one goal from the PK. 

Jon Gordon and Grant Slater played the full 90' defensively for Asbury, holding the opponent to one goal or less for the sixth time this season out of eight matches. AU had nine fouls with one yellow card given to Aiden Fish, while IU East had seven fouls with no cards.
