MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Asbury women's basketball team (10-9, 8-2 CCS) was lead by junior elementary education major Emily Sizemore scoring 29 points in a win over Huntingdon College (10-10, 7-4 CCS), 70-64, on Friday night.
AU took an early 16–13 lead after the first quarter behind balanced scoring and strong defensive pressure. Asbury continued to build momentum in the second, outscoring Huntingdon 19–17 to carry a 35–30 advantage into halftime.
The Eagles delivered its best stretch of the game coming out of the break. AU shot 46.2 percent from the field in the third quarter and knocked down three three-pointers, pushing the lead to as many as 14 points. Sizemore was relentless in the period, attacking the rim and converting at the free-throw line as AU outscored the Hawks 23–15.
The Hawks refused to go away, opening the fourth quarter on a run to cut into the deficit. The Hawks outscored Asbury 19–12 in the final frame and trimmed the lead to six with under two minutes remaining. The Eagles responded hitting timely free throws and controlling the glass to seal the win.
Sizemore finished 7-of-17 from the field and a perfect 14-of-14 at the line, while adding eight rebounds. Ma'Kiya West chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds, and Anna Hellums gave the Eagles a boost off the bench with nine points in just 12 minutes. Camryn Poole grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to help Asbury win the rebounding battle, 45–41.
The Eagles forced 17 Huntingdon turnovers and turned them into 13 points, while also scoring 20 points off the bench. AU's ability to capitalize at the free-throw line proved decisive, as they shot 90.9 percent from the stripe compared to Huntingdon's 45.8 percent.
