Hawks Run-Rule Oglethorpe In Midweek Matchup

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Welcoming the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University to Neal Posey Field for a midweek matchup prior to beginning CCS play this weekend, Huntingdon Baseball lit it up with 10 runs and 8 hits en route to a shutout run-rule victory. 

The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Blayne McDaniel crossed the plate after Jabez Sampson reached on a fielding error, giving the Hawks an early 1–0 lead.

The lead expanded in the second inning with Huntingdon's three-run frame. Drew Jolley started the rally with an RBI double down the right-field line that scored Dalton KuhnBrent Cadenhead followed with a sacrifice bunt that plated Mikael Bryant, and Ty Pruitt capped the inning with an RBI double to right field, pushing the lead to 4–0.

Huntingdon added another run in the third when Kuhn lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Brodie Holcomb to make it 5–0.

The Hawks broke the game open in the fifth inning with four more runs. Kuhn delivered the big swing of the inning with a two-run single up the middle that scored Sam Kelley and McDaniel. Bryant followed with an RBI double to right center, and Jolley added an RBI single through the left side to extend the lead to 9–0.

Huntingdon closed the scoring in the seventh when Pruitt drove in Kuhn with an RBI single to right field, securing the 10–0 run-rule victory.

Kuhn led the Hawks offensively, finishing 1-for-2 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and a stolen base, while Pruitt and Jolley each recorded two hits and two RBIs. Bryant also contributed with a double, an RBI, and a run scored as Huntingdon totaled eight hits.

On the mound, Charlie Morgan earned the win after tossing four scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out two. Reece Thomas followed with two scoreless innings of relief, and Killean Blackmon closed the game with a clean seventh inning to preserve the shutout.

The Hawks open conference play at home on Friday, kicking off a series with LaGrange. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM CT.
