ATLANTA, Ga. (September 8, 2026) –
Kaitlyn Smith (LaGrange) was named Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women’s Volleyball
Player of the Week, while
Gabby Sumrall (Covenant) earned
Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Maggie Joy Tomlin (Belhaven) was selected as
Setter of the Week, alongside teammate,
Evy Hammer (Covenant)who was tabbed
Rookie of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kaitlyn Smith, LaGrange
Middle Blocker/Right Side Hitter | Sophomore | Buckeye, Ariz.
Smith opened the season with an efficient offensive performance for LaGrange, totaling 45 kills while hitting .404 across four matches. She averaged 2.50 kills and 2.97 points per set while adding 12 blocks, 10 digs and five assists as the Panthers went 2-2 during their opening week.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Gabby Sumrall, Covenant
Middle Blocker | Junior | Monroe, La.
Sumrall anchored Covenant at the net during a 3-1 opening week, recording 20 total blocks across 14 sets. She averaged 1.43 blocks per set and registered three solo stops to help lead the Scots defensively.
SETTER OF THE WEEK – Maggie Joy Tomlin, Belhaven
Setter | Sophomore | Watkinsville, Ga.
Tomlin set the tempo for the Blazers, collecting 132 assists across five matches, averaging 7.76 per set. The sophomore topped 20 assists in each matched, including a season-high 31 in a four-set outing against Austin.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Evy Hammer, Covenant
Setter | Freshman | Winter Park, Fla.
Hammer made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, totaling 42 assists and 14 digs as Covenant opened the season 3-1. The freshman averaged 4.20 assists per set during her first week with the Scots.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features seven member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, and Piedmont University) and sponsors championships across 16 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
