Maryville Earns Top Spot in CCS Men's Basketball Preseason Poll

ATLANTA - Maryville College has been tabbed the unanimous choice by the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) head coaches to claim the Men's Basketball Conference Championship this winter as the preseason coaches' poll was released by the league office today. The Scots received each of the six first-place votes they were eligible for from the league's head coaches. 

Maryville received 36 total points in the voting, the maximum number which they were eligible for as the conference features seven men's basketball teams. Under the direction of head coach Raul Placeres, the Scots finished the 2021-22 campaign with a mark of 20-4, including a 10-2 mark in USA South Conference play. 

Piedmont University finished second in the CCS Coaches' Poll, having received 29 points, incliding the remaining first-place vote. LaGrange College earned the third slot with 25 points, while Berea was picked to finish fourth having received 18 points in the voting.

Rounding out the rest of the conference's preseason rankings were: Covenant (15 points), Huntingdon (14), and Belhaven (10). 

The 2022-23 Collegiate Conference of the South Men's Basketball Championship will begin on Tuesday, February 21st, and will culminate with the Championship Final on Saturday, February 25th

The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine members and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
