Covenant, Defending USA South Champs, Earn Top Spot in CCS Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll

ATLANTA - Covenant College, the defending USA South Conference champion, was selected as the preseason favorite in the 2022 Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll it was announced by the league office today. 

The Scots received 35 points and five of the seven first-place votes from the opposing head coaches in the league. Under the direction of head coach Scott Bosgraf, Covenant advanced to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. They defeated Denison in the First Round, before falling to Washington and Lee in Round Two. 

Maryville College was a close second in the CCS Coaches' Poll, receiving 30 points and the remaining two first-place votes from the men's soccer coaches throughout the conference. The Scots finished the 2021 campaign with a mark of 12-3-1.

LaGrange College was picked to finish third by the conference's head coaches (23 points). Huntingdon College and Piedmont University were tied for fourth, with each receiving 19 points in the poll. 

Berea College kicks off the 2022 men's soccer schedule as they head to Harrodsburg, Kentucky to take on Campbellsville Harrodsburg this Sunday evening. CCS league play gets underway on Saturday, September 24. The 2022 CCS Men's Soccer Championship is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 26, and will culminate with the Championship Final on Saturday, November 5.

The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine members and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
