Hawks Fly High: Huntingdon Wins First-Ever CCS Men's Golf Championship

DALTON, Ga. - Huntingdon College led from start to finish during the 2023 Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Men's Golf Championship to claim the conference's first-ever title in the sport. The Hawks were led by individual medalist Grant Gronka, who finished the three-day event with a score of 215 overall (-1), while each of their five scoring student-athletes finished within the top 11 overall at the championship.

Gronka was remarkable on Wednesday, shooting a 68 (-4) on the day. It was the only round to break 70 by any student-athlete over the course of the three-day event. His teammate, Jack Burr, finished second at this year's championship, posting a 221 (+5) over the 54-holes.

The Hawks capped off their championship win in impressive fashion, finishing off this year's event with a team score of 889 which was 16 shots better than second-place Piedmont University. The Lions shot 905 as a team, which earned them the runner up spot. LaGrange College finished third with a final score of 933 as a team. Rounding out the rest of this year's programs following LaGrange were: Maryville College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, and Berea College.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine members and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
