Belhaven's Gaspar Meda Named CCS Player of the Year as Men's Tennis Awards are Announced

ATLANTA - Belhaven University's Gaspar Meda was named the 2023 Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Men's Tennis Player of the Year as the conference released it's regular season awards and all-sportsmanship team today. The senior has posted an 11-1 mark at No. 1 singles and helped lead the Blazers to the Semifinal Round of the CCS Championship.

Covenant led the way with three student-athletes named First Team All-Conference and four honored overall. Piedmont also had four student-athletes earn All-Conference laurels, while Belhaven had two, including Meda.

Joining Meda as 2023 CCS major award winners were: Covenant's Ben Onufrock who was tabbed the CCS Rookie of the Year and Piedmont's Matt Williams who was selected by his peers as the CCS Coach of the Year.

The awards were selected and decided upon following a vote by the conference's head coaches.

CCS Player of the Year | Gaspar Meda, Belhaven
The Buenos Aires native currently has an 11-1 mark at No. 1 singles, and each of his 11 wins on the season has come in straight sets. His lone loss came to a student-athlete that was regionally-ranked at the time. The senior helped lead the Blazers to a mark of 7-6 overall, including a 4-2 record in CCS play, which earned them the third seed in this week's CCS Championship Tournament. Meda was also a First Team All-Conference selection.

CCS Rookie of the Year | Ben Onufrock, Covenant
The freshman from Woodstock, Georgia helped lead Covenant to the top seed in this week's CCS Championship Tournament as he has posted an impressive 7-4 record at No. 1 singles so far this season. Perhaps even more impressive, however, is his 12-1 record as a part of the top-flight doubles team for the Scots. Onufrock was also honored as a First Team All-Conference selection.

CCS Coach of the Year | Matt Williams, Piedmont
In his second year as the head coach of the Lions, Williams led the team to a 14-5 mark heading into today's CCS Semifinals. Included in that was a 5-1 mark in CCS league play, earning Piedmont the No. 2 seed in this week's conference championship. Four of Williams' student-athletes earned all-conference honors, including freshman Yannick Wassmer Navarro, who was a First Team selection.
