ATLANTA - Berea's
Kymiah Blair and Maryville's
Clarence McLean were named the 2023 Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year as the conference released it's major awards, all-conference teams, and all-sportsmanship teams today. McLean earned both the CCS Male Athlete and Rookie of the Year honors following his outstanding first year on campus at Maryville.
Joining Blair and McLean as major award winners were: Belhaven's
Kimona Haynes, who earned Women's Rookie of the Year honors and
Jamie Jimison, who was selected by his peers as both the Men's and the Women's coach of the Year.
The major awards were selected and decided upon following a vote by the conference's head coaches. The All-Conference selections were based on the results at this year's CCS Track & Field Championship meet.
CCS Men’s Track & Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year | Clarence McLean, Maryville
The Maryville freshman posted wins at the CCS Championships in the 100-meter, and was part of the Scots' winning 4x100-meter relay. He also finished second in the 200-meter dash. He also won the 100-meter at the Berea invite earlier this semester, and is currently ranked in the top 25 nationally in the 100-meter dash and posted the fastest time in the conference this season. McLean also helped Maryville to an impressive third-place finish at the CCS Championships in their first year as a program competing in the sport.
CCS Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Year | Kymiah Blair, Berea
The sophomore has had a banner spring season for the Mountaineers as she was a three-time First Team All-Conference selection, and also earned a Second Team nod for her efforts at the CCS Championship. She won the 100-meter, the 200-meter, and was part of Berea's 4x400 team that set a school record in the event this spring. Her time in the 200-meter dash also set a new program mark. Blair is also in the top 20 nationally in the 200-meter and the 400-meter this spring.
CCS Women’s Track & Field Rookie of the Year | Kimona Haynes, Belhaven
Haynes had an outstanding season for the Blazers in her first year on campus. The two-time CCS Rookie of the Week was outstanding at the CCS Championship Meet as she finished second in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter race. She also finished third in the 400-meter for the Blazers. Additionally, Haynes was a part of Belhaven's first-place 4x100-meter relay team and a part of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished second.
CCS Men's and Women's Coach of the Year | Jamie Jimison, Piedmont
The Piedmont head man was selected by his peers as the CCS Coach of the Year on both the men's and women's sides after leading both programs to conference championships this spring. On the men's side, his Lions scored 233 points at the CCS Championship meet, 37 more than runner-up Berea, while on the women's side, the Lady Lions were dominant with 266 points registered. Additionally, 13 of Jimison's student-athletes earned First Team All-Conference honors this spring.
