Week 2: CCS Men’s Soccer Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (September 12, 2023) – Joshua Szidik (Berea) was named Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Noah Putman (Maryville) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Nathan Jacome (Piedmont) was also tabbed Rookie of the Week.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Joshua Szidik, Berea
Central Attacking/Defensive Midfielder |  Senior  |  Carbondale, IL
 
Szidik scored two goals in Berea's two matches this week. The Mountaineers finished 1-1 with a win over Mt. St. Joseph.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Noah Putman, Maryville
Defender  |  Senior  |  Old Hickory, Tenn.
 
Putman helped Maryville to a 2-0-1 week in which the Scots outscored their three opponents 7-2. The senior defender scored goals in both victories to help Maryville win the 34th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic with wins over Spalding and host Centre. The Maryville defense allowed 8.7 shots per game for the week.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Nathan Jacome, Piedmont
Defender  |  Freshman  |  Suwannee, GA
 
Jacome scored Piedmont's lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Berry on Wednesday. Before Wednesday, the Lions had only lost to the Vikings in seven prior meetings.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
