Week 2: CCS Women’s Soccer Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (September 12, 2023) – Laney Bishop (Huntingdon) was named Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Zoe Gerlach (Huntingdon) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Libby Williams (Huntingdon) was also tabbed Rookie of the Week.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Laney Bishop, Huntingdon
Midfielder  |  Sophomore  |  Glencoe, Ala.
 
Bishop played in both of Huntingdon’s matches this week with two wins over Birmingham Southern and Mississippi University for Women. Against the Panthers, the sophomore midfielder finished with two goals and three shots, all on target. Against the Owls, she finished with a pair of shots, both on goal.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Zoe Gerlach, Huntingdon

Gerlach’s efforts fortified Huntingdon’s defense that kept a clean sheet and did not allow a shot on goal in wins against Mississippi University for Women and Birmingham-Southern.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Libby Williams, Huntingdon

In the net for the Hawks, Libby Williams asserted her dominance with eight saves on nine shots to benefit the Hawks defensively and help boost them to a win over Birmingham Southern. The freshman goalkeeper followed up with seven saves to post a home opening win over MUW.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
