ATLANTA, Ga. (September 3, 2024) – Hannah Mathis (Covenant) was named Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week, while Sarah Jennings (Covenant) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Ella Kahikina (LaGrange) was also tabbed Rookie of the Week.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Hannah Mathis, Covenant

Mathis played a pivotal role in leading No. 25 Covenant to a perfect 3-0 start to the season with victories over Wilmington (3-1), Pfeiffer (3-0), and Oglethorpe (3-1). She was dominant at the net, averaging 12 kills per match with an impressive .352 hitting percentage. Mathis also contributed across the board, averaging two aces, two digs, and 2.33 blocks per match, totaling 46.5 points for the week. Her standout performances included 14 kills and three blocks against Wilmington, 12 kills and four aces versus Pfeiffer, and 10 kills, six digs, and three blocks in the win over Oglethorpe.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sarah Jennings, Covenant

Jennings was a defensive anchor for the Scots, averaging 15.67 digs per match during Covenant’s 3-0 weekend. Her efforts were highlighted by a career-high 24 digs in the victory over Oglethorpe
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Ella Kahikina, LaGrange

Kahikina made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, leading LaGrange with 27 kills, 35 points, and 7 service aces over the weekend. She also contributed 20 digs and tied for the team lead in blocks. Kahikina’s strong all-around performance was key in securing back-to-back wins over Pensacola Christian and Middle Georgia State, with a solid .242 hitting percentage.
