ATLANTA, Ga. (February 25, 2025) - Alyssa Smith (Maryville) was named Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Athens DeVer (Huntingdon) earned this week’s Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week award, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
The duo, Lilly Brown and Taji Williams (Huntingdon) was named Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Alyssa Smith, Maryville

Alyssa Smith delivered a strong performance in Maryville’s match against Indiana-Southeast, earning victories at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She teamed up with Abby Diggs for a 6-4 win at the top doubles position, securing Maryville’s only doubles victory. Smith then followed up with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph in No. 1 singles, though the Scots ultimately fell in a tightly contested 4-3 match.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Athens DeVer, Huntingdon

Freshman Athens DeVer played a key role in Huntingdon’s dominant 7-0 victory over Oglethorpe, winning in both singles and doubles play. She partnered with Angelina Mazza for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles before cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
 
DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK – Lilly Brown/Taji Williams, Huntingdon
Junior/Senior | Guntersville, Ala./ Pensacola, Fla.
 
Huntingdon’s No. 1 doubles duo of Lilly Brown and Taji Williams continued their winning streak, securing a dominant 6-1 victory on the road against Oglethorpe. The win marked their second consecutive doubles triumph.

The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
