Week 1: CCS Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ATLANTA, Ga. (March 18, 2025) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its men’s track and field weekly honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Silas Goolsby (Piedmont) was named this week’s Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, alongside Will Shirley (Huntingdon) who collected this week’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honor.
 
Jimmy Woods (Huntingdon) was also tabbed Men’s Track Rookie of the Week and Jayden Smith (Piedmont) earned Men’s Field Rookie of the Week.
 

TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Silas Goolsby, Piedmont
Junior  |  Dacula, Ga.
 
Goolsby set a new Piedmont school record in the 400m at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, clocking a 48.75 to finish seventh against competition from all collegiate levels. He also competed in the 110m hurdles, finishing 11th with a time of 15.77, and anchored the Lions’ 4x400m relay team to a ninth-place finish with a time of 3:30.50.
 
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Will Shirley, Huntingdon
Sophomore  |  Gadsden, Ala.
 
Shirley showcased his versatility in the throws at the Montevallo Falcon Classic, placing in the top 20 in all three events. He secured eighth place in the shot put with a mark of 12.98 meters, finished 17th in the discus with a throw of 36.08 meters, and claimed ninth in the javelin with a mark of 46.16 meters.
 
TRACK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Jimmy Woods, Huntingdon
Freshman  |  Reeltown, Ala.
 
Woods led Huntingdon’s sprint squad at the Montevallo Falcon Classic, finishing 21st in the 100m dash with a time of 11.13 and 38th in the 200m dash with a time of 23.54. He also contributed to the Hawks’ 4x100m relay team, which placed ninth with a time of 43.87.
 
FIELD ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Jayden Smith, Piedmont
Freshman  |  Johns Creek, Ga.
 
Smith delivered an impressive performance at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, finishing 10th in the shot put with a mark of 13.94 meters. His throw ranked as the second-best mark among all freshmen in the event, trailing only an athlete from Coastal Carolina.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH (CCS)
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Asbury University, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
