CLINTON, Miss.- Kicking off the Spring 2026 season today, Huntingdon Track and Field pieced together a comprehensively solid performance at the Mississippi College Season Opener.
Junior Rory Gilroy led the way for the Hawks with a standout day in the hurdles. Gilroy placed second in the 110m hurdles, clocking a personal-best 14.90 seconds, and later added another strong performance with a fourth-place finish in the 400m hurdles in 57.13 seconds.
Sophomore Javerious Askew produced a pair of top-10 finishes in the field events, placing eighth in the long jump with a mark of 6.37m (20-10.75) and eighth in the triple jump at 13.03m (42-9). Freshman Jackson Rinehart narrowly followed in the long jump, finishing ninth with a leap of 6.36m (20-10.5), while also competing in both hurdle events.
Senior Ethan Chuck paced Huntingdon's throwing group, highlighted by a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 28.00m (91-10). Chuck also competed in the discus and shot put, recording a personal-best 10.18m (33-4.75) in the shot put.
On the track, junior Gavin McAbee delivered a pair of solid performances, posting a personal-best 23.45 seconds in the 200m and returning later for a 52.79 showing in the 400m. Cameron Evans also set a personal record in the 400m (55.61) while competing in the 200m earlier in the day.
Huntingdon's distance runners were led by freshman Hayes Brockett, who competed in both the 800m (2:18.23) and 1500m (4:51.50), while William Mann represented the Hawks in the 5000m, finishing in 18:19.40.
On the women's side, junior Michaela Moore paced the Lady Hawks with strong showings in two distance events. Moore finished 16th in the 5000m with a time of 21:57.60 and later placed 15th in the 800m in 2:52.46.
Freshman Adrianna Morning recorded a personal-best 1:10.87 in the 400m while also competing in the 200m (28.98). In the middle-distance races, Evie Garrett, Hadyn Owens, and Sydney Thompson represented the Lady Hawks across the 800m and 1500m, with Owens setting a personal best of 3:17.02 in the 800m.
The Lady Hawks' throwing unit saw multiple athletes compete in the hammer, discus, and shot put. Freshman Amberly Bennett led the group in the discus with a 13th-place finish (30.67m / 100-7) and also placed 11th in the hammer throw (26.76m). Toni Taylor and Trinity Treadway also contributed in the throws, each competing in the hammer, discus, and shot put events.
The Hawks will look to carry their momentum into the Falcon Classic hosted by the University of Montevallo on March 13th and 14th.
