Hawks Softball Secures First Regional Victory In Program History Against Berry

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- In the first game of their second consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament at home, Huntingdon Softball kicked off the 2025 tournament against a familiar foe, the Berry College Vikings.

In last season's tournament, the Hawks were eliminated from postseason competition by Berry, who ultimately went on to win the regional tournament. In today's contest however, Huntingdon improved to a 3-0 record against the Vikings on the season, claiming a 4-1 victory on their home field.

How it happened

NFCA Player of the Year Watchlist member and first team all-CCS shortstop Jordan Holman got things going for the Hawks in the first inning, drilling a double through the right side to bring in Maddie Grace Hubbard for Huntingdon's first run of the day. This run proved to be the lone score between both teams throughout the first five innings of play however, as pitching from both sides dictated play from the circle.

In the circle for Huntingdon today was CCS Pitcher of the Year Allie Roberts, who threw for all seven innings in the Hawks victory. Through five innings, she limited the Vikings to just two base hits before Berry found life in the top frame of the sixth inning, scoring on a RBI double to even things at one coming down the stretch.

Not to be outdone, Holman stepped back to the plate with two outs on the board and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, and hammered a ball through the center of the field, scoring both Kamryn Miller and Mandy Cannon to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead. First team all-CCS catcher Miranda Treadwayfollowed up with an RBI single of her own, bringing in Hubbard to extend the Huntingdon lead to 4-1 with one inning to go.

Needing just three outs to secure the victory, Roberts remained poised in the circle, forcing three Berry outs in as many batters as the Hawks picked up the 4-1 win.

What's Next?
