GRANVILLE, Ohio - A historic 2025 campaign for the Belhaven Baseball program has come to a close in the Super Regional round of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament. The Blazers fell to No. 2 Denison on Saturday to end the best-of-three Super Regional series.
Hunter Harrell led the Blazers on the final day of the season, going 3-4 overall and picking up the Blazers' lone run on the day as he puts a cap on a strong Belhaven career. Nick Thornton and Blake McCarthy each joined Harrell with multi-hit days with Thornton driving in the Blazers' run in the 1st inning.
On the mound, Gunner Staten, Trey Flettrich and John Wade were all strong in relief, combining for 3.2 shutout innings against the Big Red with Wade picking up a pair of strikeouts in the final frame.
Despite the season coming to a close, the 2025 year will be one to remember for Belhaven who had their best season since becoming an NCAA Division III member in 2016. With a 34-15 overall record, the Blazers posted the best winning percentage since 2011, a season that capped off a stretch of three straight NAIA Tournament appearances under legendary coach Hill Denson.
The on-field performance for Belhaven this year booked them a first-ever spot in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament as the Blazers earned an at-large bid with a Top 20 NPI ranking in the country.
In their first ever NCAA Regional, the Blazers put on a show, sweeping through the Webster Regional taking down Rhodes, No. 13 Webster and MSOE to book their spot as one of the last 16 teams remaining in the nation.
