CINCINNATI, Ohio.--- Asbury men's soccer (1-1-0, 0-0-0 CCS) scored five goals from freshmen on Wednesday evening in their second of three road matches to start the season, picking up their first win in 2025 at Mount St. Joseph (0-2-1, 0-0-0 HCAC) in Cincinnati, Ohio, 5-1.
The Eagles have six goals so far this season, all scored by first-year student-athletes. AU freshman marketing major Elijah Coates scored two goals in his second collegiate soccer match, the first two goals of his career.
Eli Redpath, another freshman marketing major opened the scoring for both teams in the first minute of the match with a goal assisted by Nathan Haglund. MSJ responed with an equalizing goal scored by Presley Boyle in the 26th minute, 1-1.
Coates scored the next two goals, at the end of the first half, assisted by Matthew McKenzie (42'), and then at the start of the second period (48'), 3-1.
Freshman accounting major Elyse Kaze and exercise science major Tyson Absher scored the final two goals for AU, extending the margin to a four-goal advantage. Kaze scored off another assist by Haglund in the 67th, followed three minutes later but Absher's goal which was assisted by Kaze.
Defensively, it was senior captain Crosby Short in goal for Asbury, playing all 90 minutes with three saves and one goal allowed. MSJ got 10 shots off but only four on goal against the AU defense.
Asbury had 13 shots with a strong percentage with 11 shots on goal. MSJ had six fouls while the Eagles committed eight fouls.
Asbury has now won all nine matchups with MSJ since the 2005 season, and has gotten back to a .500 winning percentage with the victory.
