Women's Basketball Emerges Victorious In Senior Day Thriller

MONTGOMERY, Ala. –Huntingdon Women's Basketball built a sizeable halftime lead and withstood a late Piedmont rally to earn a 64-61 victory Saturday afternoon inside Roland Arena.

Prior to the start of today's contest, Huntingdon recognized the program's six seniors for their contributions to the program, both on and off the court. This year's seniors are:

The Hawks came out strong in the opening half, using balanced scoring and defensive pressure to create separation early. Huntingdon attacked the paint and capitalized at the free-throw line, taking control of the game and heading into the break with a comfortable advantage.

Piedmont responded in the second half, chipping away at the deficit behind a strong interior presence and aggressive play on the boards. The Lions slowly closed the gap and made it a one-possession game in the final minutes, setting up a tense finish.

With Piedmont threatening late, Abby Byrd delivered one of the game's defining moments by stepping in to take a crucial charge, halting the Lions' momentum. On the ensuing possession, Deshauna Foote calmly knocked down the game-sealing free throws to secure the three-point win.

Charity Shaw led all scorers with 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting, while Makayla Ford and Dalyce Sanders each added 12 points. Ashanti Thomas contributed nine points and five rebounds off the bench, helping Huntingdon maintain its lead during key stretches.

The Hawks will look to keep rolling on February 10th at LaGrange. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM CT.
