Hawks Complete Tournament Sweep With Victories Over Edgewood And Millsaps

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Gathering another pair of wins today at Neal Posey Field to sweep the final installment of the Firehouse Classic, Huntingdon Baseball improved to 11-4 on the season with a 14-4 win over Edgewood in 7 innings and a 9-3 win over Millsaps in the nightcap. 

Game One v. Edgewood

Huntingdon's offense erupted for 17 hits as the Hawks rolled past Edgewood in the opener.

The Hawks struck quickly in the first inning when Sam Kelley blasted a three-run home run to give Huntingdon a 3–0 lead. The offense kept pouring it on in the second as Ty Pruitt delivered an RBI single before Brodie Holcomb doubled home a run and Kelley added a two-run single to push the lead to 7–0.

Huntingdon extended the margin in the third when Brent Cadenheaddrove in a run with a single before Holcomb launched a three-run homer to stretch the advantage to 11–0.

Edgewood scored twice in the fourth and added another in the fifth, but the Hawks continued to answer. Holcomb added a sacrifice fly in the fourth while Jabez Sampson knocked in a run in the sixth before another run crossed on a failed pickoff attempt.

Holcomb powered the offense, finishing 2-for-2 with a double, home run, five RBIs, and four runs scored. Kelley also drove in five runs, going 3-for-5 with a home run, while Pruitt and Sampson each recorded three hits.

On the mound, MD Johnson improved to 3–0, striking out eight across 6.1 innings before Landon Hawkins closed out the final two outs.

Game Two v. Millsaps

Huntingdon jumped out early and relied on dominant pitching to secure the sweep in game two.

The Hawks plated four runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Sam Kelley, an RBI single from Dalton Kuhn, and another run-scoring single by Mikael Bryant. Huntingdon added another run in the second on a failed pickoff attempt before extending the lead to 6–1 when Kuhn scored on a passed ball in the third.

Kelley struck again in the sixth, ripping a two-run double to drive in Brodie Holcomb and Bryant before Jabez Sampson added an RBI groundout to cap the scoring.

Kelley led the offense with three RBIs, while Kuhn finished 3-for-4 with an RBI. Holcomb and Bryant each added two hits as the Hawks collected 10 total.

On the mound, Jable Ramey turned in a strong performance, striking out nine over 6.1 innings to earn the win. Will Argo added four strikeouts in relief before Sam Tompkins closed out the ninth as Huntingdon pitching combined for 14 strikeouts in the win.

The Hawks will look to keep rolling at home on Tuesday, March 10th against Oglethorpe University. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM CT.
