MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After splitting their conference double-header with Maryville yesterday, #9 Huntingdon Softball hit their stride this afternoon, sweeping a non-conference slate against the Owls of MUW with a pair of run-rule victories, taking the first 9-1 before winning the second 8-0.
Game one
In Game 1, Huntingdon jumped on the scoreboard early despite a run in the first inning. Maddie Grace Hubbard's speed and smart baserunning set the tone, as she stole multiple bases and scored twice. Kylie Stephens and Kaylin Fincher drove in multiple runs, while Lana Gonzales's triple helped extend the lead. The team took advantage of MUW's defensive miscues, turning errors into unearned runs and creating big innings in the second frame. On the mound, Allie Roberts was dominant, allowing just two hits over five innings with eight strikeouts, keeping the Owls' lone run unearned en route to her ninth win on the year.
Game Two
Game 2 was more of the same, with Huntingdon asserting control from the outset. Addison Gaines delivered a flawless performance, pitching a complete five-inning shutout with 11 strikeouts and only three hits allowed. Offensively, Maddie Grace Hubbard was unstoppable, collecting three hits—including a triple—and driving in four runs. Taylor Au and Belle Walker contributed key hits and RBIs, while the team's speed on the bases continued to pressure the Owls' defense. Huntingdon built a commanding 6-0 lead by the second inning, ultimately cruising to an 8-0 victory and improving to 19-4 on the year.
The Hawks will look to keep rolling on Friday, March 27th as they travel for a CCS double-header at Piedmont. Games are set for 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM CT.
