LAGRANGE, Ga. -- Covenant softball scored five runs in the late stages of game two to earn a doubleheader split with LaGrange, falling 2-0 in game one and then winning 5-1 in game two.
GAME TWO: Covenant 5, LaGrange 2
Covenant's offense broke through for a four-run sixth inning and tacked on another in the seventh to pull away from the home Panthers in a 5-1 win for the Scots.
Emma Baltszersen led the charge with a two-RBI day, while Kallie Branum drove in the eventual winning run in the sixth. Gracie Lacle, Cassidi Phillips, Lexi Tincknell, and Cailey Barnett also added hits for the offense. Elizabeth Yother (7-4) earned her seventh win in her last eight starts with seven one-run innings, scattering six hits and four walks.
Both squads were scoreless through the first four and a half innings, as Yother and opponent Jenna Yeary (3-6) kept the scoreboard clean. However, LaGrange would eventually land the first punch with an RBI single to make it 1-0 at the end of five.
The Scots punched back.
The Scots scored four in the sixth inning, highlighted by Baltzersen's pinch-hit, two-RBI single. Madison Taylor added an insurance run in the seventh with her RBI groundout.
Yother did the rest, navigating around a single and a walk to seal the deal.
Cannon Ramsey had the lone RBI for the Panthers.
GAME ONE: LaGrange 2, Covenant 0
The Scots were held to just two hits as LaGrange's pitching led them to a 2-0 win in game one.
Charley Clark (3-9) was brilliant in the circle for Covenant, firing six innings, allowing two runs (one earned), and striking out two. Madison Taylor and Cassidi Phillips collected a hit each for the offensive side.
Both pitchers kept their opponents off the board for the first three and a half innings, but the Panthers brought home the ultimate winning run on an RBI double in the fourth.
LaGrange tacked on another in the sixth on a double and a defensive miscue by the Scots.
Claire Chamberlain (2-8) did the rest in the circle, ultimately striking out two over her seven shutout innings.
Kamie Gibby had the lone RBI for the Panthers.
UP NEXT
The Scots head to Monteagle to play Sewanee for a Wednesday doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
