Men’s Track & Field Battles the Field at the Cumberlands

Field Event Strength Shines as Maryville Throwers Control the Competition.

Williamsburg, Ky – Coming off hot with two All-Region selections for Clarence McLean and Jacob Faulkner, and a CCS Track Rookie of the Week selection for Adyn Elliott. The Scots continued their outdoor campaign at the Cumberlands Early Spring Meet.

The action kicked off, with Adyn Elliott breaking the 1500m School Record with a time of 4:16.05, finishing in 7th and scoring 2 points. In addition, Paul Kanios set a new personal record with a time of 4:30.47. At the same time, Sam Cocchia posted a strong season best. In the 800m, Adyn Elliott finished in 6th with a time of 2:02.42, scoring 3 points.

800m Runners

On the sprints side, Clarence McLean broke the 200m School Record with a time of 21.49, finishing 1st, scoring 10 points. LaRue Tisby finished 9th with a time of 23.28, with Manny Palmer finishing 10th with a time of 23.29. In the 100m, Zedrick Drew ran to a 11th place finish with a time of 11.46. 

In Pole Vault, Freshman Jackson Lakeman cleared 3.85m, finishing 3rd, scoring 6 points. In Long Jump, Palmer tied for 6th, jumping 6.33m, scoring 2.5 points. While in the Triple Jump, Palmer jumped 12.36m, finishing in 4th, scoring 5 points.

In the Hammer Throw, Josh Panneta dominated the field, finishing 1st with a throw of 43.01m, scoring 10 points. Cam Robinson finished in 3rd, scoring 6 points, Skylan Pleasant finished in 5th, scoring 4 points, and Lukas Yackley finished 8th, scoring 1 point. In the shot put, Josh Lay threw 13.17m, finishing 4th, scoring 5 points. With Lukas Yackle finishing in 7th, scoring 2 points, and Ashton Camp finishing in 8th, scoring 1 point. In the discus, Robinson, Yackley, and Camp finished 4th, 5th, and 6th, respectively, scoring 12 points combined. Jacob Faulkner then broke the School Record in the Javelin with a throw of 41.42m, finishing in 5th, scoring 4 points.

In the 5000m, Tyler Tangel broke the 5000m record, running a time of 16:46.85, finishing 4th, scoring 1 point. In addition, James LeNeve ran a personal record time of 17:02.19, finishing 12th, and Colin Baker ran an outdoor personal record time of 17:46.45. Assistant Coach Kaitlyn Carringer-Adams stated that "Tyler ran a great season opener 5k, where he is ahead of where he started the season off last year. Plus, based off indoor, we know he has more growth in this event, and I am excited to see how the rest of the season plays out!" The meet concluded with the 4x400m, Nathan Butler, Adyn Elliott, Jacob Faulkner, and Clarence McLean ran a time of 3:36.89, finishing 6th, scoring 6 points.

Head Coach Kunle Lawson stated, "As we mature as a program, it's exciting to see the development of the different event groups. We had significant contributions from our distance and sprint crews, led by a school record performance from Tyler Tangel and an event victory by Clarence McLean. Not to be outdone, the throws group, led by Joshua Panetta, did some work of their own, with three finalists in the shot put and four in both the hammer and discus. Jacob Faulkner broke the modern record in the javelin as well."

Maryville finished in 4th place with 83.50 points. The Scots compete next at the Landon Bond Classic in Berea, Kentucky, on March 28th.
