WILMORE, Ky.- Hitting the road for the first time in CCS play, Huntingdon Baseball dropped the first game in today's double-header with Asbury 4-2 before rallying for a 6-5 win in the second game.
Game one
In Game 1, the Hawks fell 4-2 in a low-scoring battle despite a strong effort on the mound. Huntingdon worked seven walks and showed patience at the plate but couldn't find the timely hit, leaving 11 runners stranded.
After surrendering an early run on a wild pitch, the Hawks responded in the third inning. Blayne McDaniel helped spark the rally, and with two outs, Sam Kelley delivered—reaching on a fielder's choice while a throwing error allowed both McDaniel and Ty Pruitt to score, giving Huntingdon a 2-1 lead.
Jacob McFarling turned in a solid start, tossing five innings and allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out three. Asbury evened the score in the fifth before using a two-run double in the seventh to reclaim the lead for good.
Will Argo struck out three over three innings of relief, but Huntingdon was held hitless over the final two frames. Kelley drove in both runs for the Hawks, while McDaniel, Brodie Holcomb, Mikael Bryant, and Brent Cadenhead each recorded a hit.
Game two
Huntingdon wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard, plating two runs in the first inning behind RBI singles from Brodie Holcomb and Sam Kelley. After Asbury answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half, the Hawks regained control in the second when Ty Pruitt delivered a two-run single to make it 4-2.
The offense kept applying pressure in the third, as Brent Cadenhead doubled down the line to extend the lead to three. Pruitt finished a perfect day at the plate, reaching base four times and driving in two runs, while Holcomb added two hits and two RBIs of his own.
Asbury chipped away, tying the game with a three-run stretch across the fifth and sixth innings, but Huntingdon responded once again. In the seventh, Holcomb came through in the clutch with an RBI single to center, scoring Pruitt for what proved to be the game-winning run.
On the mound, MD Johnson improved to 5-0, battling through six innings while striking out seven. Will Argo shut the door over the final three innings, allowing just two hits to earn the save.
Mikael Bryant scored twice, and Cadenhead, Kelley, and Pruitt each drove in key runs as the Hawks showcased a balanced offensive attack.
The Hawks will look to clinch their third consecutive conference series in tomorrow's finale. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM CT.
