WILMORE, Ky. --- Sophomore communications major CJ Hussey's seventh-inning two-RBI double lifted Asbury (9-16, 4-4 CCS) to a 4–2 game one win over Huntingdon (18-6, 6-2 CCS) before the Eagles fell 6–5 in game two to earn a split.
Game One | ASBURY 4, HUNTINGDON 2
Asbury broke a tie in the seventh inning and got a steady start from Ryan Yates in the 4-2 win The decisive swing came from CJ Hussey, whose two-run double to right field turned a 2-2 game into the final margin.
The Eagles scored first in the second inning when Cam Weaver advanced and later crossed the plate on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.
Huntingdon answered in the third, taking a 2-1 advantage on Sam Kelley's fielder's choice, a sequence that was helped by a throwing error and allowed Blayne McDaniel and Ty Pruitt to score. Both runs were unearned against Asbury, and the Eagles settled back in behind Yates after the early trouble.
Asbury pulled even in the fifth. Aaron Beaman singled to left field to bring home Andrew Billington and tie the game at 2-2. The Eagles then found the breakthrough two innings later, with Hussey delivering the biggest hit of the afternoon. His double to right plated two runs and put Asbury in front 4-2.
Yates worked seven innings to earn the win, allowing five hits, two runs and one earned run while striking out four. He navigated seven Huntingdon walks drawn by Asbury pitching staff overall and kept the Hawks from cashing in after the third inning. Andrew Gilliam handled the final two innings and did not allow a run, closing out the save.
Hussey finished with two hits, including the go-ahead double, and two RBI's for Asbury. The Eagles collected seven hits, drew four walks and finished with three doubles and three stolen bases.
Huntingdon starter Jacob McFarling went five innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three.
Brent Cadenhead and Ty Pruitt were among the Hawks who reached base, but Huntingdon was limited to five hits and stranded 11 runners as Gilliam locked down the final six outs.
Game Two | HUNTINGDON 6, ASBURY 5
Asbury erased a three-run deficit and pulled even in the sixth inning, but Huntingdon answered with the go-ahead run in the seventh and held on for a 6-5 win.
The decisive swing came after the Eagles had tied the game at 5-5. Ty Pruitt reached and later scored when Brodie Holcomb lined a single to center in the top of the seventh, putting Huntingdon back in front for good. Reliever Will Argo then worked the final three innings without allowing a run, finishing off the one-run decision and earning the save.
Huntingdon built the early lead with steady pressure in the first three innings. Holcomb opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single to right after Pruitt reached on a walk and moved up on a throwing error. Sam Kelley followed with another run-scoring single for a 2-0 lead.
Asbury answered immediately in the bottom half when Aaron Beaman doubled to right to bring home Edison Burke, and CJ Hussey later forced in the tying run with a bases-loaded walk.
The visitors moved back in front in the second when Pruitt delivered a two-run single to right, then added another run in the third on Brent Cadenhead's double down the right-field line. That gave Huntingdon a 5-2 advantage, but Asbury kept chipping away.
Josh McNulty singled in Andrew Billington in the fifth, and the Eagles drew even in the sixth on Hank Burns' RBI single and Burke's bunt single to the pitcher that plated the tying run.
Asbury finished with 11 hits to Huntingdon's eight, with Billington leading the Eagles' lineup with two hits and two runs scored. Beaman and McNulty each contributed key RBI, and Burke drove in one while also scoring. The Eagles, though, stranded 10 runners on the day.
On the mound, Cayden Devine turned in a solid six-inning start, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out three and keeping Asbury within striking distance through the middle innings.
Huntingdon starter MD Johnson went six innings and allowed five earned runs on nine hits while striking out seven and walking four to earn the decision. Argo was sharper late, limiting Asbury to two hits over the final three innings.
