ATLANTA, Ga.- Bringing their five-game losing streak to an end this afternoon, Huntingdon Baseball made the most of their nine hits in a 10-3 win at Oglethorpe.
The Hawks broke things open early, capitalizing on timely hitting and patience at the plate. In the third inning,
Brodie Holcomb drove in the game's first run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, before
Sam Kelley delivered the biggest swing of the day—a three-RBI double down the line to extend the lead to 4–0.
Jabez Sampson followed with an RBI single to make it 5–0.
Oglethorpe answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and added another in the fourth, taking advantage of a pair of Huntingdon errors to trim the deficit to 5–3.
Huntingdon responded immediately in the fifth, putting the game out of reach.
Ty Pruitt drew one of his four walks on the day to bring in a run, and a defensive miscue allowed two more to score. Kelley struck again later in the inning with his second double of the game, driving in two more runs to cap a five-run frame and push the lead to 10–3.
Kelley finished with a dominant performance at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and five RBIs. Sampson and
Drew Jolley each added two hits, while Pruitt reached base four times and scored twice.
On the mound,
Landon Hawkins earned the win in relief, tossing four innings and allowing just one unearned run on two hits. He combined with
Charlie Morgan,
Killean Blackmon, and
Ben Mosely to hold Oglethorpe to just three runs (one earned) on seven hits.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 11th in a neutral-site double-header against Greenville in Millington, Tennessee. Games are set for 12:00 and 3:00 PM CT.
