DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont men's tennis won its sixth straight match in a clinical 7-0 home sweep over LaGrange on Tuesday morning in Demorest.
Playing in the team's final home match of the season, the Lions delivered a dominant performance, cruising to the doubles point before winning all six singles matches in straight sets to quickly clinch the match.
Sophomores Leyton Dunn and Caleb McElveen rolled to a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles while the No. 3 team of Charles Parnell and Amir Latipov did not drop a game on the way to locking up the doubles point. That left the No. 2 team of Mark Backeberg and Rohan Kavali, who cruised to a 6-2 win to make it a clean sweep, improving the duo to 7-2 on the season.
With the simultaneous women's match occurring, No. 1 through No. 3 singles took the courts first. Mark Backeberg clinched first, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the top spot.
Leyton Dunn then continued his strong play, cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 to put the Lions one win away from clinching. The clinch came at No. 2 as Charles Parnell eked out a hard-fought second set to win 6-1, 7-5 and clinch a 4-0 start to CCS play for the Lions.
Piedmont was even more dominant at No. 4 through No. 6, dropping just two total games across the three Lions.
Both Kavali and Horacio Rodriguez each won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 4, respectively, before McElveen put a bow on the 7-0 shutout with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Up next, the Lions will take to the road for a pair of critical matches this weekend, first taking on Maryville on Friday, April 10 before battling Asbury on the road on Saturday, April 11.

- Piedmont took control early in the match, rolling to the doubles point before clinching at 4-0 with Parnell's win at No. 2.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Kavali and Backeberg teamed back up to move to 7-2 on the season as doubles partners.
- Kavali and Rodriguez each did not drop a game in wins at No. 4 and No. 5.
