LaGrange's Enrique Hernandez Headlines Men's Soccer Honors as CCS Awards are Announced

ATLANTA - LaGrange College's Enrique Hernandez has been named the 2022 Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Offensive Player of the Year as the conference released it's men's soccer awards today. Hernandez helped lead the Panthers to the CCS Regular Season Title, and the top seed in the Conference Championship which began yesterday. LaGrange will host Piedmont Saturday afternoon in their first appearance in this year's tournament as they earned a first round bye by virtue of winning the regular season.

Joining Hernandez as major award winners were: Covenant's Jay Patterson who earned Defensive Player of the Year; Maryville's Mykal Manfred who was selected as the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year, William Bryan - also representing Maryville - who was named the Rookie of the Year, and LaGrange's Ryan Dickson who was selected by his peers as the CCS Coach of the Year.  

Covenant and LaGrange each had six student-athletes named All-Conference, while Maryville had four First Team honorees.

The awards were selected and decided upon following a vote by the conference's head coaches. 

CCS Offensive Player of the Year | Enrique Hernandez, LaGrange
Hernandez helped lead the Panthers to the CCS regular season title as he has put together an outstanding senior season. He currently leads the conference in goals (18), points (43), and game-winning goals (3) heading into the conference tournament. He's also currently ties for second in assists with seven. Hernandez was named CCS Player of the Week three times during the season and was also named a First Team All-Conference selection. 

CCS Defensive Player of the Year | Jay Patterson, Covenant
Patterson spearheaded a Covenant defensive unit that only allowed 21 goals in 17 games during the regular season. The Scots defense was even more stout during CCS league play, as they only allowed three goals in six league games. Offensively, Patterson has chipped in with an impressive seven goals and also added an assist. He was also named a CCS First Team selection. 

CCS Goalkeeper of the Year | Mykal Manfred, Maryville 
Manfred is currently among the conference's leaders in virtually every statistical category. He is currently second in goals against average (1.50) and shutouts (three). He is also fifth in save percentage as well as in saves per game. Manfred was named CCS Defensive Player of the Week twice during the regular season and was also named a First Team All-Conference selection. 

CCS Rookie of the Year | William Bryan, Maryville 
The talented freshman has had a terrific first year for the Scots, as Bryan currently has ten goals and four assists on the season as Maryville prepares for the conference semifinals this Saturday. His ten tallies are third-best in the CCS, and his 24 points is tied for second-most in the league. Bryan was also named a First Team All-Conference selection. 

CCS Coach of the Year | Ryan Dickson, LaGrange 
Dickson has been named the CCS Coach of the Year following a vote by the conference's head coaches. He led the Panthers to the CCS Regular Season title and the top seed in the Conference Championship Tournament. LaGrange was picked to finish third prior to the start of the season, and the Panthers proceeded to post an undefeated conference mark, going 4-0-2 in CCS action. Six of Dickson's student-athletes were named all-conference, including Hernandez who was named the conference's offensive player of the year.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine members and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
