ATLANTA - Covenant College's
Emma Kalbfleisch and Maryville College's
Meredith Bonee were selected as the 2022 Collegiate Conference of the South's Co-Players of the Year as the conference's year-end awards and all-conference honors were announced today.
Joining Kalbfleisch and Bonee as CCS major award winners were: Berea College's
Fabiana De Jesús who was named the conference's Libero of the Year, Belhaven College's
Jeslian Vazquez, who was selected as the Rookie of the Year, and Covenant's
Stephanie Wharton, who was selected by her peers as the 2022 CCS Volleyball Coach of the Year.
Berea, Covenant, and Maryville each had four student-athletes earn All-Conference honors, while Huntingdon had three recognized.
The awards were selected and decided upon following a vote by the conference's head coaches.
CCS Co-Player of the Year | Enmma Kalbfleisch, Covenant
Kalbfleisch helped lead the Scots to the 2022 CCS Regular Season Championship and the top seed in this week's conference tournament. The senior from Fort Worth, Texas is currently second in the CCS in both hitting percentage (.331) and points (344.5), and is third in both kills (264) and blocks (71). Kalbfleisch and top-seeded Covenant will play host to Berea in one Semifinal Match this Friday. She was also named a First Team selection.
CCS Co-Player of the Year | Meredith Bonee, Maryville
Bonee helped lead Maryville to a 22-8 mark in the regular season, including a 13-3 record in CCS play this season. The Scots floor-leader currently leads the conference in assists per set (9.24) and is also second in service aces per set (0.55). She is also among the CCS leaders in hitting percentage and kills. Bonee was also selected as a First Team All-Conference selection.
CCS Libero of the Year | Fabiana De Jesús, Berea
De Jesús was selected as the CCS Libero of the Year by the conference's head coaches. She has helped lead Berea to the Semifinal Round of the CCS Conference Tournament as they will head to Covenant to take on the top-seeded Scots Friday night. The senior from Caguas, Puerto Rico is among the conference's leaders in virtually every defensive statistical category and was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week three times this season. She was also named a First Team All-CCS selection.
CCS Rookie of the Year | Jeslian Vazquez, Belhaven
A two-time CCS Rookie of the Week selection during her first season at Belhaven, Vazquez helped lead the Blazers to a 7-9 mark in conference play this fall. Vazquez led Belhaven with 198 kills and was second on the team in points (237) and points per set (2.37). The first-year standout also earned Second Team All-Conference honors for her play this season.
CCS Coach of the Year | Stephanie Wharton, Covenant
In just her first year as the head coach at Covenant, Wharton led the Scots to an outstanding 2022 campaign and has been selected as the CCS Coach of the Year by her peers. Covenant has posted an overall record of 19-11, including a 14-2 mark in CCS league play. Wharton's Scots earned the regular season championship this fall and are the top seed and host for this weekend's CCS Championship. Four of her student-athletes were named all-conference selections, including Kalbfleisch, who was selected as Co-Player of the Year.

ABOUT THE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH
The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine members and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
