Yannick Wassmer Navarro (Piedmont) was Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Men’s Tennis
Player of the Week, while teammate,
Rohan Kavali (Piedmont) earned this week’s Men’s Tennis
Rookie of the Week, released by the league office on Wednesday.
The duo,
Abraham Gonzalez and
Justin Humphrey (Belhaven) was named Men’s Doubles Team of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Yannick Wassmer Navarro, Piedmont,
Sophomore | Madrid, Spain
Yannick Wassmer Navarro played a pivotal role in the Lions' 1-1 weekend, securing a notable win over Pfeiffer. The sophomore propelled Piedmont to a 3-1 lead by clinching the second set after a hard-fought tiebreaker victory in the first set, ultimately triumphing 7-6(1), 6-2 in the No. 1 singles slot. Despite experiencing a loss in the No. 1 doubles slot, Wassmer Navarro's swift victory (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 1 slot and a solid 6-2 win alongside Connor Phelps in the No. 2 doubles slot propelled Piedmont to a 2-0 advantage. However, despite Wassmer Navarro's valiant efforts, the team suffered a narrow 4-3 loss to Virginia Wesleyan.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Rohan Kavali, Piedmont
Freshman | Hyderabad, India
Kavali secured a crucial 2-1 lead for the Lions against Pfeiffer with a stellar performance, claiming victory in his first-ever collegiate match with a score of 6-2, 7-5. Despite facing a setback in his singles match against Virginia Wesleyan, Kavali showcased resilience by partnering with Bryce VanOrder to clinch a 6-4 win at the No. 3 doubles slot.
DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK – Abraham Gonzalez/Justin Humphrey, Belhaven
Seniors | Morelia, Mexico/ Florence, Miss.
Gonzalez and Humphrey won their No. 1 doubles match 8-5 against Hinds Community College.

The CCS is an NCAA Division III athletic conference that began play during the 2022-23 academic year. The conference features nine member institutions (Agnes Scott College, Berea College, Belhaven University, Covenant College, Huntingdon College, LaGrange College, Maryville College, Piedmont University, and Wesleyan College) and sponsors championships across 14 sports. In addition to sharing the member institutions' geographic identity, the name 'Collegiate Conference of the South' is indicative of a shared commitment to academic excellence, which is commensurate with the NCAA Division III philosophy.
